Giorgio Moroder performed as DJ for the first time ever at Deep Space in NYC, May 21, 2013. He had never DJ’ed before. Moroder, composer of film scores and electro-pop, was first known to me as the guy who, in 1984, colorized and restored the film Metropolis, with music by Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Jon Anderson, Adam Ant, Cycle V, Loverboy, Billy Squier, and Freddie Mercury.

Moroder was responsible for Love to Love You, Baby, Hot Stuff, Call Me, Flashdance, and Take My Breath Away.

This looks silly and gaudy; I know. But it’s nothing like the trends these days with cakes and cupcakes! This looks like stuff the home baker can do. But nowadays, we have access to fondant, gumpaste, and all the Wilton accessories, and we are sort of expected to come up with masterpieces of baking. Everything covered in slick fondant. Cupcakes are ONLY frosted with a big piping tip and whipped cream frosting. This is simple buttercream, smoothed with a spatula. And strawberry sauce! What’s better than that? I admit; I am a big fan of cookie decorating with royal flow icing. I love a perfect sugar cookie. Not into the cupcakes. But I drool in the Wilton aisle. Love it. I also love these nostalgic cakes, because Mom used to make us fancy cakes with coconut, just like the pink one. It’s my childhood.

The first painting I ever did that contained meat was called The Meat Magi, which I painted in 1997. It depicts an idyllic 1950s neighborhood with excited children running up to what would seem to be a brightly painted ice cream truck. Instead of selling ice cream, the commodity is actually meat.
